Music Choices When Planning for 5th Grade

When planning for 5th grade, children and their families choose among band, choir and orchestra options:

BAND: The band instruments taught in fourth grade are flute, clarinet, trumpet and trombone. In fifth grade, we add alto sax, french horn, oboe and percussion (percussion openings are available for a limited number of students). If your child is interested in pursuing one of these new instruments, please email Band Director Paul Vickous.

CHOIR: If your child is interested in singing, please sign up for choir. Students learn how to sing confidently, continue to add to their knowledge of music theory, and begin sight singing.

STRINGS: Fifth grade stringed instrument options remain the same as in fourth grade: violin, viola, cello and bass. At the middle school, cello and bass players do not need to bring their instruments to school. Basses and cellos are provided at school for students to use. Students should keep their intrument at home for practice.

Due to the complexity of the Wyoming middle school schedule, your child’s 5th grade music choice will stay with them for the school year.

If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to one of the middle school music instructors listed below. We are very excited to work with your children!

Thank you,
